Analysis of traditional windcatchers and the effects produced by changing the size, shape, and position of the outlet opening

Abstract Increased thermal comfort in buildings is consuming large amounts of energy around the world, especially hot arid and semi-arid regions. Finding adapting ways to naturally cool should be a priority for researchers subject. For centuries Middle East cultures have used wind towers their they proved cost-effective, easy implement reliable solution passive cooling that requires almost negligible operate. The present work tests one traditional windcatcher 33 modifications design outlet opening. It seeks act as guide how both enhance also avoid reducing performance when designing windcatchers with designs. Using CFD modelling, volumetric airflow was captured by catcher computed different modifications, this revealed which designs restrain flow boost airflow, making more effective.
